THIS WEEKS RECIPE

This recipe was given to us by Renee' Kuipers, one of our favorite knitters! This recipe sounds
so simple.
My family loves raisin bread. We will be making this for sure! Thanks Renee'.

RAISIN BREAD

Ingredients:

1 cup raisins
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 t. baking soda

Combine raisins and water in a pan and bring to a boil.  Continue boiling until water is reduced
to just covering the raisins.  Dissolve 1/2 t. baking soda in raisin mixture.  Cool thoroughly.
Preheat oven to 350º.

1 cup cooking oil
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 t. vanilla
3 cups flour
1/2 t. salt

Beat oil and sugar until creamy.  Add eggs and vanilla.   Beat until well mixed.  Stir in flour, and
salt, alternating with raisins.
Grease oven proof cans or loaf pan.  Bake for approx. 1 hour.  Remove from pan immediately
and allow to cool on rack.

SERVICE PROJECTS

We had some very lovely knitted afghans donated this week for Project Linus.  Thank you so
much!
We also had some very nice fleece blankets donated by Carol Weideman and Esther Charon.
Again, we are very grateful for these donations. They help make life a little better for so many in
need.

"STUFFIES" FOR KIDS

Country Needleworks is happy to join with the Department of Human Services to collect Beanie
Babies or other small stuffed animals for children entering foster care.  The stuffies will be given
to children who are being removed from their home due to neglect or abuse.  This gives them a
comfort object to hold while they are driven to their new foster home.

Beanie Baby type "stuffies" are easily washed and stored, so they would be preferred, but the
brand name does not matter.  New or gently used are fine.  It doesn’t matter if the tags are still
attached.

Donations made to the Department of Human Services are tax deductible, so if you have a large
collection you would like to donate please contact Wendy Wheeler (Jerri’s daughter) and she can
arrange for you to get a receipt.  wheelerw@michigan.gov or 616 558-7841

Thank you for bringing a smile to the face of a child during a very difficult time.

We did receive some donations of "stuffies" this week for this worthy cause. Thanks to all of
you who donated!

Gloves, Mittens and Scarves For
"Cast Off the Cold"

Bring a donation of hats, mittens, gloves And/or scarves
(handmade or purchased) and hang them on our tree.
Items will be donated to "Cast Off the Cold" to benefit the homeless families and individuals at
Mel Trotter Mission.  Thank you for your help!
