Knitters and Crocheters:  Would you like to see a demonstration on how to "block"
finished work? Come at 10:00 this Wednesday, September 17, for a special free event in
our classroom.
A customer of ours, Judy Jelsema, has completed a beautiful wool lace weight circular shawl,
and she and Ruth Boelkins will be immersing it in soaking water and then pinning it out to
its finished dimensions on blocking  mats.  This is a necessary step for almost all fiber
projects -   sweaters, shawls, colorwork items, socks, and more.  No need to sign up.  Just
come and join us in the learning and fun!

This weeks recipe is from Chris, our stamp/scrapbook girl.  She served this to her family
and they told her they loved it!  It sounds delicious! Thanks Chris for sharing.

5 pounds red potatoes, cut into chunks
1 T. Minced garlic, or to taste
3 cubes chicken bouillon
1 (8 oz.) Container sour cream
1 (8 oz.) Package cream cheese, softened
½ cup butter
salt and pepper to taste

In a large pot of lightly salted boiling water, cook the potatoes, garlic and bouillon until
potatoes are tender but firm, about 15 minutes.  Drain reserving water.  In a bowl, mash
potatoes with sour cream and cream cheese, adding reserved water as needed to attain
desired consistency.

Transfer the potato mixture to a slow cooker, cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours.  Just
before serving, stir in butter and season with salt and pepper to taste.  Enjoy!

Country Needleworks is happy to join with the Department of Human Services to collect
Beanie Babies or other small stuffed animals for children entering foster care. The stuffies
will be given to children who are being removed from their home due to neglect or abuse.
This gives them a comfort object to hold while they are driven to their new foster home.

Beanie Baby type "stuffies" are easily washed and stored, so they would be preferred, but
the brand name does not matter. New or gently used are fine. It doesn’t matter if the tags
are still attached.

Donations made to the Department of Human Services are tax deductible, so if you have a
large collection you would like to donate please contact Wendy Wheeler (Jerri’s daughter)
and she can arrange for you to get a receipt. or 616 558-7841

Thank you for bringing a smile to the face of a child during a very difficult time.
